Back to San Diego

Have you ever driven through Los Angeles during rush hour? In the rain? With a trailer? On Monday, the 26th of February, we woke up for the last time (on this trip, we'll be back) on Tom and Janine's driveway, now my favorite camping spot. We had such a great time hanging out with my friends even though they weren't feeling well much of the time; nonetheless, they were just as always, incredible hosts. And then there's the Buddy and Portia show! They had more fun digging for gophers, barking at imaginary intruders, greeting guests, and generally wearing each other out. They have become such good friends and so much fun to watch.

So, back, to the drive. Our target destination for the evening was Dana Point - Doheny State Beach. I thought we'd arrive between 5 and 6 pm, just enough time to check out the park. Our ultimate destination was Silver Strand State Beach on Coronado Island San Diego.

Driving in LA is not easy or fun, but in the rain with a trailer during rush hour, which has turned into rush hours- I have yet to find any time there isn't traffic; it's crazy. Ten to twelve lanes going both directions, all packed with cars and drivers who have one thing in mind: I'm getting to my destination first and you don't matter. Needless to say, a drive that should have taken four to five hours took over eight and I was ready for bed after trying to find our site in the dark in an unfamiliar state park. Enough complaining, we made it safely, but we were both spent.

The next morning, we took our time leaving and began the short drive to Coronado Island. We are here for Matt's tribute on March 9th and to meet my cherished friends Bill and Debi who are on their way to Waikiki. It will be heartwarming to hug them both.

Catching up with my friend and Matt's wife Jen will also be so nice and also see how the tribute plans are shaping up. And then Portia has Walter and Winnie to roughhouse with Jen's two-year-old Bernadoodles.

Until next time, friends!

I was wondering if you might get caught up in those "atmospheric rivers" hitting California. Stay safe and enjoy your time with Bill and Debi.

Yes Jim it’s a repeat of last year. Just a lot of rain for this drought stricken area. If they could find a way to capture the runoff and pump down into the aquifers their water woes would be over.
